Randy Quaid and his wife Evie will be allowed to stay in Canada, officially refugees from the United States. While it is possible Canadian authorities accepted the Quaids' story of fleeing Hollywood Star-Whackers, Evie's dad being a Canadian citizen -- allowing her to become a Canadian citizen earlier this month, and sponsoring her husband as an immigrant -- probably helped as well.
In a news conference, Randy Quaid expressed his appreciation of the Canadian government:
"When Evi and I came to Canada last October we could never have envisioned how things would unfold and how our lives would change. Today we're here to say thank you Canada. Thank you for your warm welcome. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to live in peace..."
The Quaids fled to Canada last year, fugitives from the law and facing felony charges. They claimed they were being targeted and framed by what they termed "Hollywood Star-Whackers," a shadowy cabal who are supposedly responsible for the deaths of many stars such as David Carradine and Heath Ledger.
Of course, the obvious question that arises from all this is -- is there a place in Canada for Charlie Sheen?
